For people who work remotely, access telehealth, pay bills online, or participate in distance or hybrid learning, having access to strong, dependable WiFi is more important than ever. That’s why Smart Columbus is working with the Columbus Metropolitan Libraries, Columbus Foundation, Reeb Avenue Center, NCUS, Columbus City Schools, and the City of Columbus to test ways to make in-home WiFi access affordable and reliable in our community. If you or someone in your household communicates with a doctor online, is completing a GED, college coursework, or a workforce training program, or works remotely in any way, we encourage you to take advantage of the Cbus WiFi service for one full year at no cost to you.
For this program, we’re looking for participants who live within half a mile of Mount Vernon Plaza in King-Lincoln Bronzeville. Your home must be located between Broad St. and I-670 and between I-171 and Taylor St.
Participants in this pilot program will receive free in-home WiFi until May 2022. This one-year trial period is at no cost to you. You can cancel the service at any time with no penalty or fee. When your WiFi program has 90 days left, you will receive regular expiration reminders each month until the end of your trial. After the trial period, you can continue with the service provider for no more than $15 per month. You won’t automatically be charged at the end of the trial period; you’ll need to opt-in within the last three months to continue with the paid service.
Whether you need home WiFi or you’re looking for a more affordable provider, the Cbus WiFi program is an easy way to try our service without committing. If you currently have internet, you do not need to switch providers to benefit from our program. You can simply add Cbus WiFi to your existing service and enable more of your devices to be online in the home all at once. If you enjoy it, you can make a permanent switch once the trial is over.
We will ask participants to complete two surveys during the program. As a volunteer, your opinions help us improve the program while exploring ways to make affordable internet access available to more families in our community.
